SO, Tenby United will head into Saturday’s South Hook LNG Pembrokeshire Cup final as underdogs.

With Aberystwyth currently playing a division above the Seasiders, in division two west, that notion is an inevitable one.

But personally, I don’t believe the Seasiders have anything to fear.

All the pressure will be on Aber, and Nicky Guymer’s men would have noted how they fell at the final hurdle against then division two side Crmych last year.

Last year’s runners up have also struggled in division two this season - only spared relegation by the WRU restructure.

After a tough start to life in division three Tenby have come good.

In the second half of the season there form was formidable, including a four match winning run that saw them topple now champions Haverfordwest.

However, The Seasiders are sweating over the fitness of captain Nicky Guymer, who faces a race against time to be fit after picking up a back injury.

Guymer, who captained Tenby to the division four title last season, said: “With me its fingers crossed, and Sam Smith has dislocated his knee which is a blow.”

But the 28-year-old remained positive about his side’s prospects.

“But I believe we stand a great chance of winning as it’s a cup final.

“It will be a close game.”

Lifting the trophy would be just reward for a player who has represented The Seasiders for ten consecutive senior seasons.

“I won the Pembrokeshire Cup in my first season ten years ago, coming on as a sub,” he added.

“But this would mean a lot more.

“Hopefully I’ll be running out as Tenby captain and if we win it will be up there with winning division four title season.”

The final takes place at the King George Vth Memorial Ground in Cardigan, with kick off at 2.30pm.

In recent years, the event has been held in midweek, but organisers have opted to return to a Saturday spectacle.

I believe the move is a positive one. Often in midweek games, pre-match preparation is hampered by work commitments.

Also, it encourages more supporters to come along and attend what should be an intriguing conclusion to the Pembrokeshire rugby season.
