THE final game of the season was played at a windy astro turf pitch in Fishguard between two very good teams who were in the top four positions in the league.
Fishguard came into this game unbeaten and already crowned league champions, however they wanted to finish off the season with an unblemished record.
They knew they were in a for a difficult game, as Llanybydder had played really well in the corresponding fixture away from home with only a goal splitting the teams back before Christmas.
However, with a strong Fishguard team available, they started the match off in a tentative manner and actually went a goal down in the first five minutes.
But with the confidence that the squad now has, they clawed their way back into the match within the next ten minutes, scoring two excellent goals, the result of a ‘passing game’ that has been developed.
With the use of rolling subs, the hosts led 4-2 at half time.
The second half was very much like the first half with home outfit dominating periods of play, but Llanybydder, never accepted defeat until the final whistle and really put the home defence under pressure.
The Fishguard goal scorers were Charlotte Harries (3), Lisa Leyshon (2) , Kelly Lewis and Claire Williams.
The home crowd gave the team a warm reception when the final whistle blew, having won the league for the first time and remaining unbeaten throughout a long season consisting of 16 games.
