THERE was a huge smile on the face of St Davids’ coach Jack Dudley on Saturday evening after his team caused the surprise result of the day in division five west.
They served notice of intent in the third minute when their pack did well to develop a ruck from which skipper Gethin Bateman picked up and drove over for an unconverted try.
St Clears responded with an unconverted try from prop Gareth Jones but St Davids recaptured the initiative to lead 10-5 at half time as Graham Badham ploughed over for a try after good work by Bateman, Gethin Jones and Aled Harries.
Chris Rodenhurst reduced the deficit with a penalty, but with youth outside half Scott James having a good game The Saints had the final word when Badham scored his second try and scrum half Jack Jones converted.
