GOODWICK United put six goals past an extremely weak Hakin United outfit at Phoenix Park.
There was nothing at stake on this game, as Hakin United missed out in the title race with Merlins Bridge winning in midweek, and the Vikings already guaranteed runners-up spot before a ball was kicked.
Vikings boss Gary Dawes fielded virtually a second string outfit, knowing that his team play Monkton Swifts in a more important Senior Cup clash that they want to retain this Saturday.
Bernie Armstrong’s team led four-nothing at the break with goals scored by Steve Evans, Kieran O’Brien, Darren Devonald and Ryan Thomas. After the break Nigel Armstrong pulled a goal back for the visitors but Rhys Dalling struck for Goodwick’s fifth. Alex Grenish scored the goal of the match when his incredible 50-yard direct free kick sailed over Carl Woodhouse for a ‘Beckham’ style finish.
But Goodwick added a sixth goal when Tom Jones scored with a penalty after Ryan Thomas had been fouled in the box.
