MONKTON Swifts got their Senior Cup preparations off to a perfect start as they demolished Solva at Monkton Lane on Saturday.

This came on the back of two disappointing defeats in midweek, where Byron Phillips’ Swifts lost 4-3 against Giants Grave in the West Wales Intermediate Cup semi final, and then lost to Merlins Bridge two days later in a match that saw the Wizards win the title.

But the Swifts returned to winning ways with an emphatic five-goal victory that puts them in a good mood ahead of the final with favourites Hakin United at the Bridge Meadow this Saturday.

Daniel Scourfield opened the scoring on 15 minutes. The left sided midfielder ran in from 20 yards to coolly slot home past James Griffin.

Ten minutes later and Lee Brockway added his side’s second with an exquisite free kick from the edge of the area that flew in off the post. Just before the interval and Matt Harries pulled a goal back for the visitors.

However, a minute after the break and the hosts added a third goal when Matthew Davies struck from close range. Lee Evans missed with a spot kick but two goals in the last ten minutes secured an easy win.

James Russell scored the fourth with a far post header that stemmed from a Daniel Scourfield floated free kick in the box and Dan Harts drilled in the bottom corner with a free kick 20 yards out to complete the scoring.
