Pennar Robins’ seconds clinched the division three cup following a dramatic penalty shoot out with St Clears at the Bridge Meadow Stadium last Friday evening.

The top two sides in the division could not be separated after 120 minutes of pulsating action. Robins skipper Phil Thompson gave his side the lead in the first half after he sprang the Saints’ offside trap and ran clear to lob keeper Steve Evans and slot in to an empty net.

It looked as if that goal was going to clinch it, but referee Sean O’Connor, who had a good game, awarded the Saints a penalty four minutes from full time. Saints skipper Dorian Davies took responsibility and his low drive from 12 yards hit the post. There was agony and total disbelief on his face as he missed a golden opportunity to square matters. But two minutes later the Saints forced the final into extra-time when they did level matters. The Robins’ defence did not deal with a long throw in the box and Sean Seymour-Davies made no mistake at the far stick.

Both sides failed to score in the added time period so it was settled on penalties.

Craig Lucas hit the post for the Robins with the third penalty and it was left to Dorian Davies to take his side’s fifth to wrap up the match. But the skipper struck his effort well wide for his second penalty miss on the night.

The penalties went to sudden death. Jamie Goodier fired his seventh penalty well wide for the Saints, before up stepped Luke Phillips to drill home the crucial winner and become the Robins’ cup hero.
