AFTER years of preparation Pembrokeshire heavyweight Scott The Hammer' Gammer is to fight for the most coveted title in British boxing next month.
The hard-hitting 29-year-old, of Castle Quarry, Monkton, will be fighting English champion Mark The Butcher' Krench at the Carmarthen Showground on Friday, June 16th, for the British Heavyweight Title.
The pair previously fought a title eliminator bout in which Scott finished Krench within eight rounds.
Scott, who is undefeated in his 16 bouts since turning professional four years ago, told the Western Telegraph: "I'm feeling really happy and excited at the moment. It has been my dream since I was a kid to become the champion and now I've got the chance to make it come true.
"I'm really pleased it's being held in Carmarthen as I get a real boost from my supporters."
Scott, who will be weighing in at around 16st 7lb, has been boxing for more than 20 years under the expert tutelage of his father and coach Ralph.
Ralph said: "I know Scott has what it takes to go all the way to the top."
Scott's manager Paul Boyce said: "Scott is the most talented boxer in the country at the moment, and this is the ideal opportunity for him to show what he is capable of."
While the Gammer camp are concentrating on the upcoming championship fight, Paul hinted that, if successful, he would like to see Scott face Michael Sprott and Audley Harrison on his way to building a reputation on the world stage.
Henry Jones, of Haverfordwest, will also be fighting on the undercard.
Tickets cost £30 or £35 on the night or £50 for ringside seats. To order tickets contact Ralph on 01646 683983.
