Pembrokeshire Under 11s Schools' sides recently played in the Welsh finals of the HSBC Yeoman at Duffryn Park, Blaina.
This was a wonderful experience for the boys as they met the best sides in Wales.
Although they did not progress into the semi-finals they played some good football and were a credit to their county.
In their first match they met Newport Schools The A and B-sides both competed well at this higher level and kept Newport at bay for the first half.
However the A side eventually lost 2-0 while the B-side also went down 1-0.
The second set of matches were against Cardiff Schools.
The A side took Cardiff by surprise when Elliot Goldsmith scored after linking well with Martyn Carroll. Tom Grimwood and Niall Kinsella both went close to adding another. Rory Sillence played well in goal and Guto Harries, Jack Murphy and Aaron Robinson all defended strongly.
The B team had a very close game and had several chances with Hugo Wellum and Liam Fawcett playing well. Rhys Clutterbuck and Joel Morgan worked hard in midfield with Toby Rossiter, Josh Hicks and Kieran Rendle defending strongly.
Dominic Bowen-Rees made some great saves in the game, but Cardiff just sneaked a goal late on in the second half. This made the aggregate score 1-1 with both areas sharing a point.
Their final set of matches were against Flint Schools, who had won the competition before on many occasions.
The A side lost 3-0 despite some good defending by Jacob Dent. James Bridges went close with a header from a free kick, but overall Flint were too strong opposition on the day.
The B team ended their day with a hard fought goalless draw against a very strong Flint side. Jerome Mansbridge ran well up front and Adam Richards was solid in defence leaving the Flint side no room to score.
Coaches Angie Nicholls and Mark Hicks praised the whole squad for their performances over the season, especially Dan Edwards and Liam Davies, who played in every round but were unable to make the rearranged finals date.
