Herbrandston (141 all out) lost to Haverfordwest 2nds (143 for 7) Umpires: Geordie Fraser and Terry Sandy.
Scorer: Ros Phillips (Haverfordwest).
The father and son duo of Steve and Julian James helped Haverfordwest 2nds gain a nail-biting victory at Herbrandston that took them to the top of the section table.
Son Julian grabbed four wickets and took two excellent catches before stroking 32 runs, and dad Steve rapped a vital 40 not out.
Not only that, but Steve hit two big sixes in the final over of the match, the second off the very last ball as they needed five runs to win.
His straight drive earned them 29 points for a win instead of 14 for a draw.
But Herbrandston were entitled to feel a little unlucky because Haverfordwest won off the over Herbie had gifted The Town by getting out in the 44th over.
Steve James also had more than his fair share of luck from the third ball he faced when a ball from Kristan Bennett took an outside edge, shaved the off stump but the bail bounced back into place and the catch was dropped behind the wicket!
Herbie had batted first on a damp track and Haverfordwest held no fewer than nine catches as Nigel Delaney led the way with three of them to show his fielding prowess alongside skipper Jamie Jenkins and Julian James, whose two low catches off Micky Phillips helped Haverfordwest grab that vital extra over.
Alan McClelland led the home batting with 38 and there were other useful cameos by Pete Spencer, Jason Chapman and Gary Davies before Steve Bennett slogged a late 17 not out. Johnny Morgan bowled a good early spell for The Town and Matthew Johns picked up 3 for 32 alongside Phillips (3 for 32) before Julian James came on to claim his four wickets.
Mark White and Julian James gave Haverfordwest a useful platform after tea and Jamie Jenkins also chipped in with 21 as Kristan Bennett steamed in to claim 4 for 27 alongside Steve Bennett (2 for 25) for Herbie.
Then Steve James took over late on, showing he can still wield a bat with the best as he struck 40 not out and took The Town home with nothing to spare!
