Solva 1
Haverfordwest County 1
(Haverfordwest County won 5-4 on penalties)

David Rees’ crucial sudden-death penalty ensured Haverfordwest County defeated Solva at Maes-y-Mor to move into the semi final.

This cup-tie was keenly contested and finished 1-1 after full and extra time before the dreaded penalty shoot-out took place. With each side missing a penalty from the designated five taken, Solva missed in the sudden death, but substitute David Rees held his nerve to fire home the winner.

It’s always cruel to lose in that fashion, but Solva boss Peter Cole remained upbeat and was proud with the way his side took the game to the Bluebirds.

The hosts took a 20th minute lead when David Price steered his shot past James Manson. Ten minutes after the interval and Derek Roberts’ Bluebirds squared matters when Rob Morgan scored with a powerful header. No more goals in extra time but the clash ended in dramatic fashion as Rees, out injured for past seven months was the Bluebirds’ cup hero. They’ll meet Merlins Bridge in the semi final at the Bridge Meadow next month.
