Bangor City 3
Haverfordwest County 2

County came back from Bangor with their pride intact and their heads held high after a stirring performance that should have earned them all three points.

There was a dream start for the West Wales Properties sponsored Bluebirds, when Lee Hudgell took a short corner, and the Bangor defence was unable to clear the cross by Tom Ramasut. With the defence in tatters, Jack Christopher slotted home his third goal of the season from a tight angle at the far post. Although Bangor equalised in the 12th minute, County could easily have been 2 goals up by then as the strikeforce of Woodrow and Christopher, aided by Lee Hudgell took the game to the hosts. In fact if it hadn’t been for some bizarre decisions by the referee Derek Brazil’s side would have easily gained all three points. The first came in the 28th minute when Tom Ramasut, who had been the victim of some scything tackles by the Bangor players, was subjected to a knee high tackle by Nicky Ward that should have resulted in a red card, but the Bangor midfielder escaped with only a caution. Bangor took the lead in the 35th minute when a shot rebounded off the post onto Lee Idzi and ricocheted out to the unmarked Jamie Reed who made no mistake Whilst the hosts may have shaded the first half, it was County who were in control for much of the second. Jack Christopher scored again within minutes of the re-start, when he outpaced the Banger backline and slid the ball into the net past past the keeper’s outstretched hand. It was the pace of the Bluebirds attack that was giving the Bangor defence trouble, on a pitch that was cutting up badly. On several occasions both Woodrow and Christopher were through, and were called back for being offside whilst heading away from the goal, and in no position to interfere with play.

Despite the obviously bad decisions, County continued to vary their tactics; hitting Bangor on the break occasionally and then playing a patient game, building the attack from the back.

In the 75th minute a well worked move allowed Ashley Stott to score the winner.

The Bluebirds were bitterly disappointed to came away from Bangor with nothing.

Giving Bangor a victory that they didn’t deserve, against a County side that played quality football throughout the game, never let their heads drop, and did not deserve to lose.

County are at home to Newtown this Saturday, and a repeat of this performance will ensure all three points for them.
