Coleg Powys(Newtown) 1

Pembrokeshire College football academy were drawn against Coleg Powys (Newtown) in the Welsh Schools under-19 cup national stages, the first time the College have gone this far in its history.

The College students booked their place in the national quarter final with an excellent second half performance. Remarkably the cup-tie was goalless at half time.

The second half told a different story as the students regained the upper hand.

Long throws from full back Danny Peters were a constant threat and in the 48th minute it produced the opening goal for Gareth Warlow. A flick on at the near post by Atueyi Vincent found the diminutive striker inside the six-yard box to tap in.

Six minutes later, and left winger Ashley Andrews played a superb through-ball to Warlow, and he finished with aplomb to make it two-nothing.

The goal of the game came on the hour.

Under constant pressure, Newtown cleared the ball out of the area, but only as far as Daniel Bryce. The young midfielder struck a superb 25-yard effort that flew into the top corner.

Late in the tie and the visitors pulled a consolation goal back from a direct free kick, which deceived keeper Peter Scammell .

Pembrokeshire students were in no mood to surrender the game and substitute striker Kern Cunningham came close on two occasions to extending the lead, his second shot coming back off the bar.
