Haverfordwest gymnastics club hosted the first Welsh tumbling championship run under the new code recently.
With over 100 gymnasts competing at four levels, novice, improvers, intermediate and advanced, the crowd were well entertained by the endeavours of the gymnasts.
Clubs from all over Wales journeyed to Haverfordwest to ensure keen competition for every title. Gymnasts from Haverfordwest won a number of individual and team medals.
Dorian Pawlett performed three accurate tumbles to win the advanced 13/14 boys title.
Britney Campbell-Lawrence won the intermediate nine/ten girls title and there were also wins for Sara Cox, novice nine/ten years, and Hannah Thomas, improvers nine/ten. Polly Scotcher, individual second, Joanna Weedon, third and Mared Cooke, fourth performed quality tumbles to dominate their competition and combined to win the team championship in the advanced 11/12 age group. Other medallists included Sara Storrow, second novice eight in year, Jadie Davies, second novice 11/12, Iesha Henderson, second improvers 11/12, Steffan Thomas, third improvers nine/ten. The improvers team consisting of Leon Whalley, Ceri Evans, Steffan Thomas and Sara Storrow also took third in the team competition.
Club chair and tumbling technical chair Paul Hughes, said: “I’m delighted that this event was held in Pembrokeshire and proved such a big success. The standard of tumbling on show was of an extremely high standard.”
Cllr Anne Hughes and Stephen Crabb MP were part of the crowd who enjoyed a thoroughly entertaining event.
