The players of Narberth RFC are striving to create club history by beating Bedwas at the Lewis-Lloyd Ground to reach the last eight of the Swalec Cup on Saturday, February 20th.

The Otters know it will be a tough cup clash, but with home advantage they’ll never have a better opportunity of progressing in this prestigious cup competition.

The Otters aren’t taking anything for granted but coaches Jon Dodd, Sean Gale and Clive James are quietly confident that they can get a result.

In the previous round Narberth gained a resounding 28-8 home victory over Pontypool - a team with a proud cup tradition.

But the home side will hope to avoid their fate of six years ago when Bedwas dumped them out of the Swalec Cup. On that occasion the Otters missed a late kick under the posts that could have secured victory.

On current form the Otters should sneak it - but it’s all about how they apply themselves on the pitch.

The coaches will be telling the players not to let the big match nerves get to them and also play with an air of confidence and self-belief.

Narberth have strung an impressive six-match unbeaten run together, with the latest win being a morale-boosting derby victory at Whitland, which always goes down well with the Narberth fans who now own the bragging rights.

If the Otters overcome this stiff hurdle it will be the furthest they have progressed and if they can gain another plumb home tie, who knows, they may even reach the semi-finals at the Millennium Stadium.

But they must defeat Bedwas first, then the history making can take care of itself.
