Neyland Cricket club’s talented indoor cricket team carried the Pembroke County Cricket Club banner with distinction as they came runners up to a very strong and experienced Ynystawe side in the Welsh Indoor Cricket Finals at Penlan Leisure Centre, Swansea.

The Neyland team comprised Gregg Miller (captain), Andrew Miller, Paul Murray, Sean Hannon, Scott John and Nick Kooman, with Paul Miller undertaking the scoring duties and Allan Hansen putting his experience to good effect as one of the three umpires on duty.

Match One: Neyland took on Ynystawe in the opening match and must have been pleased to restrict the opposition to 113 for 5 in their allotted ten overs, with Scott John as the pick of the bowlers as his accuracy earned him fine figures of 2 for 10. But the tally to chase might have been even lower because Neyland conceded more wides than they would normally do so.

When they gave chase, Paul Murray led the Neyland batting, reaching 25 not out before retiring, and returning to the crease as wickets fell, to finish with 52 in a final tally of 88 all out.

Match Two: Neyland shrugged off their nerves and produced a dynamic performance against Radyr, the Cardiff-based club which was also packed with experienced players. Scott John (33 not out), Paul Murray (29 not out), Andrew Miller (25 not out) and Nick Kooman (25 not out) helped Neyland to the top score of the day, a very challenging 133 for 1 wicket.

It was a similar story when they fielded, with Sean Hannon grabbing 2 for 8 and keeper Paul Murray pouching two catches, one a rebound off the wall where he had to show real anticipation and speed. Radyr were shot out for 82, giving Neyland deserved victory by 51 runs.

Match Three: Ynystawe beat Radyr.
