Footballer Bobby Briers is unhappy with the way Welsh Premier outfit Haverfordwest County claimed on their website that he had been released by the club.

Last week the club stated that they had released Briers, aged 21, and midfielder Paul Michael.

But an annoyed Briers hit back: “It was my decision to go - it wasn’t a case that they released me.

“I think I’m good enough to be in the squad and naturally just want to play every week. I’ve always respected the manager’s team selections — but now it’s time I moved on.”

Briers has been involved with the Bluebirds for a number of years, but felt that he wasn’t getting enough starts this season.

The player, who is equally at home in defence or midfield has just signed for Bridgend along with Michael.

He also received some good news after being selected for the Wales University squad.

But he was disappointed with the club’s statement and wanted to set the record straight.

However, he added: “I don’t want to leave on a sour note. I’d love to play with Haverfordwest again in the future.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the club including the fans.”

Briers’ cause wasn’t helped when manager Derek Brazil brought in seven new players during the January transfer window to strengthen his squad.

He acknowledged that both players needed time on the pitch.

“Both of them need regular, competitive football,” said Brazil.

“I will be keeping an eye on their progress. I never discount players."

Brazil also stated on the website: “I would like to thank them both for their commitment and efforts, and the door is open to them next pre-season.”

It’s been well documented that Haverfordwest County must finish in the top 12 if they are to stay in the Principality Welsh Premier next season.
