A local athlete has made a remarkable comeback after a four-year break.
Vicky Lloyd, aged 23, won gold in the triple jump competition at the Welsh Senior Open in UWIC last month.
She had only been back in training three months before the event, after taking a step back from sport in 2006 to train as a nurse.
She won the competition with a jump of 11.01 metres, and although this is far below her personal best it was almost 50cm clear of second place.
Vicky said she was delighted to have returned to form so quickly.
“I have been out of training for four years and didn’t expect to win,” she said.
“I’m not quite back in full training yet, but I’m building up to it.”
Vicky, who attended Sir Thomas Picton school and now lives in Herbrandston, represented Wales at junior and senior levels.
