Pembrokeshire’s County primary schools’ football squad met north Ceredigion in the next round of the Welsh schools’ competition at the weekend.
Pembs A 2
North Ceredigion A 0
Pembs started off brightly, passing the ball well and making good use of the wide pitch. Billy Truman and Fraser Finlay ran well along the flanks supporting Paul Miller up front. Liam Cullen was covered a lot of ground in midfield and Max Brindley marshalled the defence of Ryan Conbeer and Ethan Price. James Harries played well in goal and was not really troubled, while at the other end the Ceredigion keeper kept out shot after shot. Cullen broke the deadlock to score a fine goal in the first half. Cameron Jenkins tackled well and Jack Blunsden scored Pembs second just before full time.
Pembs A 3
North Ceredigion B 2
This was a close game with Pembs dominating the first half and North Ceredigion fighting back in the second. Paul Miller scored first and then Cullen added another after a well worked free kick. A lapse in concentration allowed Ceredigion to pull a goal back, but Pembs immediately replied through Cullen again. Again Ceredigion scored and Pembs just held on after defending a succession of corners.
Pembs B 2
North Ceredigion B 1
Pembrokeshire went 2-0 up early on through Curtis Hicks and Noah Richards. Regan Palace, Samuel and Lewys Thomas played well with Jack Griffiths once again controlling the midfield. Lewis Phillips and Luke Harries ran well on the wings and Henry McBeth chased every ball. Nick Jones made his debut in goal and the team gelled well.
North Ceredigion pulled a goal back but were never going to take the game away from the Pembs boys.
Pembs B 1
North Ceredigion A 0
Pembs approached the second game with more determination and the boys played very well. Lewys Thomas scored and then the team worked has to keep their slim lead. The Ceredigion keeper was tested on several occasions as Pembs tried to increase their tally, but their main aim was to preserve the vital three points which they did magnificently.
Pembs picked up all 12 points to keep them on top of the league table with one round left for them to play against Swansea.
Thanks to Tenby AFC for the use of their pitches to stage the round.
