Crymych suffered a double blow to their season losing 29-12 at Laugharne, with the game doubling up as a division three and Swalec Plate match.
The home side led 16-5 at the interval thanks to tries from Chris Thomas and Jack Tremlett, but the Preseli Men kept themselves in touch when Cenydd James squeezed over on the stroke of half time. After the break there was also a trademark try for fly half Gareth Davies, but there was to be no stopping Laugharne, who added further scores from half backs Adam Davies and Ross Harries.
Haverfordwest slipped into the relegation zone after going down 39-14 at Llandeilo. The Blues played some entertaining rugby and a first half score from winger Ben John kept them in it at just 15-7 at half time. However, they struggled for parity up front and in the second half the home side pulled away with classy full back Kelvin Davies notching a personal haul of 24 points with three tries, three conversions and a penalty. Chris Moore, Alwyn Davies and Rhydian Jones also crossed for Llandeilo but the Blues did at least grab a consolation when youth hooker Johnny Howard, making his first senior start, crashed over from close range.
Cardigan suffered a disappointing defeat, going down 6-21 at lowly Penclawdd. The Teifisiders could only muster a Mike Diggle penalty in each half, while the away side were buoyed by a double from speedy winger Owen Jones. Fly half James Moores added three penalties and a conversion as the home side failed to really get going.
In division four, Pembroke bounced back to form as they scored seven tries in a 47-20 win over Hendy. The Scarlets’ backs dominated throughout, with Luke Hansford maintaining his good form with a brace of tries. Powerhouse centre Mark Williams also grabbed two and there were further scores for second row John Jones, No 8 Robin Badham and a penalty try. Fly half Phil Williams completed the scoring with six conversions.
Twenty-two points from fly half Tom Lewis helped Tenby to a comprehensive 37-11 win over Trimsaran. Lewis kicked 17 points from his trusty right boot and was also one of the home try scorers alongside flanker Luke Deadman, second row Gareth Edwards and winger Nemeni Ratu as the Seasiders converted a 31-11 half time lead. The win moves Tenby up to fifth in the table.
Pembroke Dock Harlequins gave league leaders Tumble a real scare before going down 20-27. First half tries from pacy winger Sam Irwin and full back Dean Lawrence, plus two conversions from fly half Andy Jenkins saw the Quins lead 17-10 at the interval. Derek Lewis had scored an early try for the visitors but in the end it was fly half Steve Hewitt who proved the difference as he kicked four second half penalties and created a try for centre Gareth Jones. Jenkins did at least respond for the Quins with a second penalty of his own, to ensure the home side gained a creditable bonus point.
Neyland boosted their hopes of promotion, winning 19-12 in a titanic tussle with Furnace. The All Blacks took a deserved lead when flanker John Tennick burst through for a try which fly half Mark Riley converted, but the away side hit back straight away with a score from centre Barry Samuel. The vital score then came on half time, when home centre Adam Collins powered through a gap to score and early in the second half, Steve Hamer crossed to open up a 19-7 lead. Tom Barnes did strike in the corner for the visitors late on, but the All Blacks closed out the dying minutes for the win.
Fishguard maintained top spot with a 34-0 win at home to Swansea Uplands. Winger Matthew George opened the scoring after finishing from long range and skipper Carwyn Thomas rounded off a lineout drive to open up a 12-0 half time lead. Further scores in the second half came from centre Rhys Williams, flanker Emyr Hughes, hooker Gavin Walsh and full back Rhodri Thomas as the Seagulls completed a routine win.
St Davids made it six league wins from seven with a 7-27 success away at Bynea. After a tight opening period, skipper Fraser Watson cut through twice in as many minutes to open up a ten- point gap. Home scrum half Richard Lewis responded with a solo try, but the Saints secured a bonus point before half time when Watson completed his hat trick from long range and winger Craig Challonder went over in the corner. The game was effectively finished at the beginning of the second half when Russel Watkins found himself on the end of a good handling move and although the home side pressed late on, the Saints pack held firm to ensure a comfortable win.
Llangwm took a weakened team to New Dock Stars and paid the price, going down 67-10. The Wasps were again unable to field a front row or name any substitutes and the home side capatalised with hat tricks from Dan Thomas and Gareth Lee. Other scores came from Ben Griffiths, Jordan Phillips, Matthew Thomas, Rhodri Owen and Nick Davies, who added six conversions. The Wasps did at least gain a consolation try from Robbie Neill, and a conversion and penalty from Luke Brock.
