Football: British Colleges Cup-first round: Coleg Sir Gar 5 Pembrokeshire College 1 Pembrokeshire College made an early exit from this competition due to a poor first half performance.

Early chances for Gareth Warlow and Alex Ouzman were not taken and this fact came back to haunt the students. Sir Gar capitalised on hesitancy in Pembrokeshire’s defence in the 13th and 16th minute to take a two goal lead.

The students pulled a goal back through Atueyi Vincent from a well worked corner in the 25th minute, but two further goals before half-time put the home side in the driving seat.

The second half saw the Pembrokeshire students take the game to their opponents, as they controlled the game through Ricky Watts, Nathan Evans and Vincent but were thwarted on many an occasion by good goalkeeping and desperate defence.

By half-time, the team was playing with determination and led 9-4.

Pembrokeshire made a few changes at the break —new shooters and two new centre court players.

Gorseinon also made a few changes, which proved to disturb Pembrokeshire’s game but they kept their composure and led 12-9 after the third quarter.

The final quarter was extremely tense but the girls clung on for a narrow but thoroughly deserved victory. Player of the match was GS Sophie Rees.
