Haverfordwest Gymnastics Club recently held their first inter-club championship since moving to the new Haverford-west leisure centre.
Competitions were held for general and women’s artistic gymnasts. The day began with a display by the club’s gymnasts with disabilities and the under five-year-olds. They were rewarded with medals for completing their displays, which included some of the gymnasts who competed at a competition held in Poole, Dorset.
The day continued with competitions for general gymnasts in a variety of age groups where the girls had to perform on the four pieces of artistic apparatus while the boys performed on floor, vault and bars.
The day rounded off with the club’s artistic gymnasts competing to be the club champion for 2009 in novice and challenge cup levels.
After the competition the club held a presentation ceremony at the Picton Centre where they were joined a number of local dignitaries. These included The mayor and mayoress of Haverfordwest Cllr Jim Campbell and his wife. They were also joined by Paul Davies AM and Mrs Jane James, public relations officer for Chevron. They enjoyed a fish and chip supper along with many gymnasts and their parents. The whole day was a great success with over 150 competitors entering the event and a host of medals presented by the club’s guests as medals were awarded for the top three performers on each piece of apparatus as well as overall winners. The chair of the club Paul Hughes thanked everyone who helped in preparing for and during the event, which ensured it ran smoothly and was such a huge success.
