When the current freeze ends three local clubs — Narberth, Neyland and Pennar Robins — will fly the county’s flag in the West Wales Intermediate Cup, aiming to reach the quarter-finals and with real hopes of making it to the final.

Telegraph Sport spoke to all three managers last weekend to see how they assessed their chances against opponents from Carmarthenshire and the Swansea senior league.

Narberth v Wellfield Narberth manager Nigel ‘Tommy’ Thomas knows his team have already beaten one of the favourites in Ragged School, from the Swansea senior league and on paper they face an easier task in this round because they entertain Wellfield. Wellfield are in division one of the Carmarthenshire league which is, in effect, the second section since Carmarthenshire also have a premier division. They have a record of four wins, two draws and two defeats so far.

Tommy said: “We won’t go into the game with over-confidence because perhaps that was what Ragged School did when we played them. We are strong at the back through keeper Rory Spears alongside Richard Henton, Ashley Williams and Liam Woodford, with Kyle Quartermaine back from suspension and with Marc Hughes able to play at the back or in midfield with Adi Jones, skipper Raff Barnett and Justin Blewitt. Morgan Preece and Jordan Williams are a threat up front and Ritchie Adams’ experience is vital in the squad. We are already really looking forward to the match.”

Bwlch Rangers v Neyland Neyland travel to play Bwlch Rangers knowing that they have already beaten Johnstown from the same premier division of the Carmarthenshire league. So the Nomads are up for this one against a side who have so far won five, drawn two and lost two matches. Telegraph Sport spoke to player/manager Paul Hannon, who works in conjunction with fellow player/manager Wayne Parry. Both should play significant parts if their side wins.

“We are all eager to get into the match and my younger brothers Patrick and Sean could be playing respectively as keeper and part of the back four alongside Andrew Kemp, Jeremy Evans and Jarred Campbell,” Paul said.

“Wayne will join Aaron McQuillan, Joe Charlton and Adam La Rosa in a highly competitive midfield.

“Nathan Warlow joins me up front and we are looking to myself, Wayne, Andrew, Nathan and Joe to score the goals that we need to make progress.”

Pennar Robins v Morriston Olympic Pennar Robins’ manager Chrissie Lloyd has a really strong squad lined up for their match. They play Morriston Olympic, from the top division of the Swansea Senior League, who are currently seventh with three wins and four losses.

“We know we are in for a real battle at Bush Camp but we have a full strength squad at the moment,” said Chrissie.

“With experienced players like Darren Shaw, who can play anywhere, Dean Driscoll and Wayne Brunton (strikers), Dai Patterson, Paul Lowe (midfield), also Dean Busby and John Probert could also play key roles, as could my co-manager Gavin Southcott who has started playing again.

“Stuart James will be in goal plus Mike Powell, Sean Donohoe and Andrew Green have been playing well at the back. There’s Nathan Patterson, Clem Boswell, Ben Nicholas, Lee and Craig Brockway all looking to be picked so I have quite a job in getting the balance right. But we are confident we can make progress so we can’t wait for the match.”
