Whitland Wanderers 20
Narberth Athletic 36
A young Narberth Athletic side gave a superb performance to beat Whitland Wanderers in their Pembrokeshire junior union cup fixture at Whitland.

Against a strong and more experienced team, Narberth’s youngsters grabbed their chances and outplayed the home side. The Narberth back row of Richard Sharpe-Williams, Rion Whatmore and John Tennick were outstanding, leading from the front and providing the platform for success.

Outside half Rhodri James, too, was on top of his game, kicking superbly for a personal tally of 21 points from five penalties and three conversions of tries by exciting young hooker Aled Harries, Rion Whatmore and John Tennick. James did not miss a kick all night. The half-back pairing of James and Rhys Davies worked smoothly throughout.

Full back Gethin Salter, making an all-too-rare appearance, showed his potential with a fine all-round display and he gave ample evidence to suggest that he would be challenging for a first-team place if he was regularly available.

The front row of Gareth Bevan, Aled Harries and Peter Rodway showed up well, as did centres Jack Parsells and Craig Barnett.

The gloss was taken off the victory though with a serious facial injury to young Parsells, who suffered a fractured jaw, cracked cheekbone and damaged eye socket.
