Pembroke Dock Quins 3 Llandeilo 24

League leaders Llandeilo maintain their 100% record with a deserved bonus point win at Bierspool on Saturday, taking the Quins’ unbeaten home record that stretched back to early November.

The Quins playing with the wind in the first half had the better of the early exchanges with the scrum holding up particularly well, especially as some key members of the pack were missing.

The Quins took a deserved lead after 20 minutes when full back Dean Lawrence landed a well-struck penalty from 35 metres after obstruction in midfield.

However, the visitors hit back almost immediately when flanker Dylan Jones crossed in the corner after the Quins failed to clear their lines. Another try soon followed when prop James Hughes touched down near the posts leaving outside half Andrew Morgan with an easy conversion to put the visitors 12-3 ahead.

Just before the break Quins’ number eight Gareth Scourfield went desperately close to narrowing the deficit in the last move of the half.

The visitors started the second period with a bang. Second row Nathan Jones scored an unconverted try after just five minutes It was now all about a bonus point for the visitors, but the Quins held their ground as the pressure mounted.

But in the end they cracked as flanker Dylan Jones scored his second try converted by Andrew Morgan.

Despite defeat the Quins can take heart from a never say die approach and can look forward to next week’s local derby with Tenby at Heywood Lane.
