Swansea Bay 3.
Carew 1st XI 5.
Carew came out on top in a high-scoring affair at Swansea Bay.
Despite club record goal scorer Jamie Smith back from injury with a strapped-up hand Carew found themselves a goal down within five minutes, but equalising through a delicate Smith chip over the keeper.
Carew took control of the game with Smith adding further two goals and completed his hat-trick, giving the Rooks a 3-1 cushion at the interval. With Tom Colley back in the side after a couple of years out the midfield was at full strength. Mason played his fluid role with Kendrick holding the centre well. Two further goals early in the second half sealed the game for the Rooks. Colley’s wicked shot deflected over the keeper by Smith, incredibly marking his return with five goals.
It could well have been more as Smith hit the cross bar, a penalty stroke was denied as the umpire played advantage, Mason scooped the ball past the post and further attempts by Williams and Kendrick were just wide.
Bowles, Moseley, Head and Johnson were rarely troubled in defence.
However, two short corners late in the game saw Swansea put two past keeper Leigh Thomas.
Carew: L. Thomas (GK), S. Kendrick (C), M. Bowles, S. Moseley, D. Head, O. Johnson, B. Wheeler, T. Colley, E. Williams, J. Mason, J. Smith.
