Hills of Aran romped to victory at Chepstow recently, much to the delight of local racehorse trainer Keith Goldsworthy.
Having reported Lucy Jones’ exciting win at Exeter, on Cresswell Ruby in last week’s edition, Telegraph Sport is delighted that Yerbeston based trainer, Keith Goldsworthy, continued his winning ways at Chepstow, when Hills of Aran, ridden by champion jockey A. P. McCoy, won the £23,000 class two rated Pertemps handicap hurdle.
Owners David Hughes and Mike Evans were at Chepstow to watch their bay gelding win for the fourth time. They stated that this victory would put their horse among the highest rated three-mile hurdlers in the country and they hoped he would progress even further after this run.
Hills of Aran, making his first appearance of the season over hurdles, was driven up the stiff Chepstow finishing straight by the excellent McCoy to win by three-quarter of a length. He is now expected to target the Hennesey meeting at Newbury at the end of November, where it is hoped he will run in a class one - three-mile hurdle race.
At Huntingdon last Thursday, the very brave little mare, Cresswell Ruby ridden by top jockey Richard Johnson, continued Goldsworthy’s winning streak by leading from pillar to post in the Turf TV handicap hurdle over three and a quarter miles. This was her third win of the season and the field was unable to keep up with the strong pace that she set; the winning distance was an impressive seven lengths.
Keith and Linda Goldsworthy have only 12 boxes in their yard, but they have some very capable horses and this hard working pair deserves all the credit they receive. This stable is one to watch over the winter months as it competes against the best horses in National Hunt racing.
