Kilgetty 2.
Milford Athletic 1.
Nick Cope struck an 86th minute winner to ensure Kilgetty goes through to the next round of the Senior Cup.
Second division outfit Milford Athletic battled bravely all afternoon against their division one opponents and can count themselves unlucky to lose in the dying minutes.
With the score level at one-goal apiece, this cup tussle was heading for extra-time, but the hosts dug out a goal from nowhere.
Grant James picked a loose ball up around halfway beat a couple of defenders and set-up deadly Cope on the edge of the box.
Cope rounded a defender before looking up and drilling home a near post winner — much to the delight of his manager and dad, Andrew.
Kilgetty’s afternoon was marred when defender Dan Cope, cousin of goal-hero Nick, was sent-off for receiving a second yellow right at the end.
Heavy rain made conditions difficult for both sides, as the first half stayed goalless in a tight scrappy cup-tie.
The closest the hosts came to breaking the deadlock was when Josh Bevan struck two successive shots just wide.
Shortly after the break Duane Rossiter opened the scoring by striking home from the edge of the 18-yard box.
The visitors equalised in the 55th minute. Kilgetty’s defence failed to clear a corner and Phil West struck a rising shot past unsighted keeper Chris Frearson.
High drama came right at the death, as one Cope grabbed the winner and the other Cope saw red.
Before kick-off both teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of Kilgetty president George Edwards, who died earlier in the week.
