Cwmllynfell 12.
Whitland 3.
Whitland were unable to reproduce their excellent form of the previous week and went down to defeat at a windswept Cwmllynfell to disappoint their hardy band of supporters in attendance.
Their respective league positions would have indicated that the Borderers were red-hot favourites to return home with a comfortable win but they were unable to find any sort of pattern in the difficult conditions.
There were few scoring chances in a tight first period as they played up the slope, but outside half Emyr Williams put them ahead after 35 minutes with a penalty before missing from a much longer range after 38 minutes.
The second half saw conditions worsen and it was Cwmllynfell who grabbed the opening try midway through the period when Alan Proctor was yellow-carded for Whitland. Home No 8 Jim Morgan made their numerical advantage pay off with a close-range try which Steffan Jones converted.
Whitland tried hard to battle back as acting skipper Lee Glanville tried to raise the tempo, but Emyr Williams rapped the post with a penalty and half chances were lost by handling errors.
But the Borderers were still in with a chance until the closing moments, when strong- running home centre Paul Davies sliced through for an unconverted try to give Cwmllynfell a welcome home win in their fight to avoid relegation and at the same time force Whitland to lose ground on the top two clubs in the section.
