Narberth 8.
Carmarthen Athletic 17. Narberth produced a lacklustre performance and allowed visiting Carmarthen Athletic to gain a victory at the Lewis Lloyd Ground.
The defeat at Corus the previous week had been regarded as a blip on their good start to the campaign but this loss showed that there seems to be a lack of confidence in the side. Although they had a good corner try from winger Jonathan Morgan, who recently joined the Otters from Whitland, there was little else for their partisan supporters to cheer about.
Athletic opened the scoring with a penalty from outside half Neil Davies after the referee had spotted a Narberth hand in a ruck and worse was to follow when experienced prop Ryan Perrott had to leave the field after only nine minutes. Aled Davies missed a long-range Narberth penalty soon afterwards but in the 14th minute the Otters showed what they can do with a strong run from No 8 Derek Lewis setting the launch-pad for quick hands by Richard and Neil Davies to put Morgan in at the corner for a try which Aled Davies was unable to convert.
Narberth had second row Alex Jenkins yellow-carded four minutes later but still increased their lead with a well-struck penalty by Aled Davies right on half time to give them an 8-3 interval lead.
Narberth centre Richard Davies was yellow-carded after ten minutes of the second half and Neil Davies slotted the resultant penalty for Athletic. The visitors took the lead on 57 minutes when an error by Aled Davies set up a scrum from which No 8 Gareth Bennett and scrum half Aled Thomas combined to put winger Dai Jenkins in at the left corner.
Adrian Killa and Tom Bonnell featured in a rare Narberth attack but the Otters lacked cohesion at half back and handling errors conceded the chance to build much momentum.
Athletic increased their lead when Neil Davies launched a huge penalty through the uprights from four metres inside his own half and Davies made the game safe for them with a shorter penalty that was also on target.
