Pembroke Dock Harlequins 39.
RTB Ebbw Vale 0.
Pembroke Dock Harlequins marched into the third round, proving far too strong in all departments against RTB Ebbw Vale, who play in division five (east) and have lost four of their first five matches.
The Quins played into the elements in the first half, but still ran up a 15-0 lead before adding a further four tries in the final quarter, with the added bonus of former captain Mike Scourfield returning after a long spell out injured and showing what he has to offer up front.
Leading the way for the Quins was winger Neil Murray, who scored a first-half try when they managed to defy the conditions and spread play wide via Darren Gibby and Gary Pickering.
Outside half Dean Lawrence crossed twice and Murray added another two tries in quick succession in the last 20 minutes to complete his first hat-trick in cup rugby.
Quins skipper Gareth Scourfield led his pack by example, closely followed by Richard McIntyre, Gary Burns, Chris Saunders and David Manning. Danny Manning and Phil Hughes were always in the thick of things, enabling Jason Scarfe and Stuart Hay to call the shots.
Hard-running centres Gibby and Pickering also crossed for unconverted first-half tries and in the later stages braces from Murray and Scourfield, who also landed two conversions, made sure that the Quins were good value for a victory that pleased coach Lenny Scourfield for the way his team played overall.
Pembroke Dock Harlequins: Dean Lawrence, Carl Scott, Darren Gibby, Gareth Pickering, Pat Russell, Stuart Hay, Jason Scarfe, Richard McIntyre, Gary Burns, David Manning, Chris Saunders, Martin Cunningham, Phil Hughes, Danny Manning, Gareth Scourfield (Capt). Replacements: Dean Wilcox, Chris Holt, Darrell Potter, Mike Scourfield.
