A teenager from Pembrokeshire has achieved every young rider’s dream by competing at the Horse of the Year Show — and being placed in the top five.
Bea Bea Meyrick, of Great Wedlock, Gumfreston, competed in the Underwood 133cm Working Hunter Pony of the Year, riding Crabbswood Nutmeg, affectionately known as ‘Nutty’.
Bea Bea qualified at the Shropshire and West Midlands Show in June and was up against 20 other qualifiers.
At the Horse of the Year Show, the pair competed against the very best from across the country and put in a superb performance to finish fifth.
Bea Bea, the daughter of Simon and Amanda Meyrick, has had an extremely successful year. As well as competing at HOYS, she has also taken part in Pony Club tetrathlons and was a member of the South Pembrokeshire Hunt branch team that won the Area Dressage and Area Eventing Competitions, and represented the area at the Pony Club National Championships.
Bea Bea and Nutty also won the National Schools Eventing Championships at Stonar in May and competed at the Royal International. Meanwhile they were selected to represent Wales in the Working Hunter Inter Team Competition at the BSPS Summer Championships. They came second out of 11 teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Other Pembrokeshire working hunter pony riders who also competed at HOYS were Danielle Gardham on Belle Vue Royal Prince who finished third in the 153 cm section and just out of the placings were Sian Thomas and Nicole George.
