Amy James, riding her fabulous Welsh Section D Prince, won the mountain and moorland working hunter pony at the Horse of the Year show held at the NEC.
Bred in Pembrokeshire by Tom Barrett and partner June Thompson as a one off “bit of fun”, Prince is by the Hendrewen stallion Aba Express.
Prince arrived at Mallards Reach, Camrose, with his mother to break in only 18 months ago.
From day one he showed tremendous character with a real love for jumping and has rocketed up through the training process to win this most coveted prize. Amy knew from the start that he was something special.
At only four years old he was highly placed in last year’s BSPS summer championship show at Peterborough. He qualified for HOYS at the City of Swansea show in May.
Amy enjoyed a win at HOYS last year when Butlers Alidan won the 133cms WHP class, who she produces for Jenna Davies, of Westfield. Amy has several other star prospects based on her yard ready for next year. She produces from lead rein ponies to working hunter horses, teaches and events horses at a high level.
