Congratulations to Lucy Jones, who last season was the national ladies’ novices champion in point to point races — making her debut under national hunt rules at Exeter speeding to victory on Cresswell Quay.
Lucy’s winning debut was further enhanced by the fact that her mount, owned by local character Bruce McKay, fended off a late challenge from the 3/1 on favourite to win by half a length at the cracking price of 33 /1.
Racing against amateur riders of both sexes, she led from the front, and her delight was evident as the race was televised and she was interviewed afterwards on TV.
