Milford Haven 15.
Cefneithin 15.
The battle of the two sides with unblemished records in division five (west) ended all square as Milford Haven and Cefneithin shared 30 points.
The Mariners had led 15-3 early in the second period with their pack revelling in set-piece situations. Jamie Parr, Craig Smith and James Passmore were clearly on top in the scrummaging stakes while Gareth Fawcett and skipper Carl Allen made sure of quality line-out ball for half backs Aaron Sprowell and Leigh Broome to use.
The breakaway unit of Ben Johnson, Mark Wonnacott and veteran Roy Hadley was always in the thick of things but when Cefneithin were deemed unable to continue with contested scrums, Milford lost a key component of their battle plan.
Cefneithin did well to claw their way back into contention but Milford coach Alan McClelland was understandably frustrated by the way the game changed with uncontested scrums as some of the intensity generated by his young and relatively inexperienced side was lost.
The Mariners took an early lead with a cracking try by full back Ian Rusinek, who executed a double dummy and looped around winger Craig Thomas to take the scoring pass.
Rusinek missed the conversion but soon added a penalty before Cefneithin responded with a similar kick from number ten Chris Moore to restrict the home side to an 8-3 half time lead.
Milford were boosted by a second try when Aaron Sprowell, his brother Wayne and Leigh Broome put Dean Matthews into space and the powerful centre stormed to the line for a try which Rusinek goaled.
At this stage a Milford win seemed imminent but two tries from Cefneithin winger Luke Jenkins, one converted by Moore, tied things up and the joint league leaders had to settle for a share of the spoils.
