Fishguard and Goodwick 29.

Furnace 0.

Fishguard and Goodwick ran in four tries causing a big upset with bonus-point victory over third placed Furnace.

The Seagulls were deservedly 15 points ahead at half time as their pack quickly quelled the Furnace fire up front.

Scrum half Graham Davies was magnificent behind the pack in keeping the visiting back row on its toes and providing some protection for young outside half Alun George.

The centre combination was also vital with Steve Jenkins supplying power and aggression to cause problems, while Huw Evans called the shots with his vast experience.

The home side opened the scoring when Alun George slotted a penalty after good work by Gerwyn Davies, Mark James and Dan Morris before skipper Simon James linked with fellow back rower Mark George and supplied the scoring pass for Mark George to cross the line.

Graham Davies added try number two from a typically strong close range burst at a scrum and a conversion from Alun George ensured his side had a useful first half advantage.

Andrew Merry, Gwilym Davies and New Zealander Dan Charsley all contributed to the Seagulls’ ball-winning competence and further tries followed.

Club captain Simon James spotted a gap and sped through, and full back Matthew Reynolds also crossed, both tries converted by Alun George.

There was even time for a cameo appearance from veteran prop Chris Mitchell, who came out of retirement again, and if the Seagulls can maintain this sort of form they will soon motor up the league table.
