Pembroke 31.
Trimsaran 14.
Two cracking second half tries by powerful centre Mark ‘Pello’ Williams were the highlights of Pembroke’s excellent win at Crickmarren over Trimsaran.
He brushed aside a couple of tackles on each occasion to storm through from 40 metres. He proved a constant thorn in Trimsaran’s side all afternoon and was the undoubted man of the match.
But it was far more than a one-man show for the Scarlets with half backs Ross McNally and especially Scott Bowen growing in confidence and taking the right options.
The Scarlets were good value for an interval lead of 14-0 as their pack again looked sharp, with the back row trio of Tom Surtees, Steve Dyde and Robin Badham always involved alongside Richard Mason, Tom Jones and skipper Gareth Jones in the ball-winning stakes.
It was Gareth Jones who opened the Scarlets’ account with a good early try after Dai Beynon and John Jones had done the spadework with a forward drive from 15 metres out, Bowen adding the extra points.
Then full back Phil Williams scored a lovely solo try with a deft chip over the top which he pouched and sped through for Scott Bowen to again convert.
Mark Williams then pounced for his brace, both converted by Bowen, who also landed a penalty. But Trimsaran refused to submit and their efforts were rewarded when scum half Ioan Jones and prop Gavin O’Shea claimed tries, both goaled by Paul Davies.
