Corus 34.
Narberth 10.
Narberth produced their worst performance of the season so far against a Corus side which had former Otters’ player Chris MacDonald leading the way behind a big pack.
MacDonald has always relished a challenge and as well as his general play he claimed a try as reward for his constant probing and the Steelmen belied their lowly tenth spot in the table as they led 21-5 at half-time and never allowed the Otters to really get back into contention.
Corus scored their first try from a close-range line-out where No 8 Carwyn Davies ploughed through to the line for full-back Rhys Williams to convert, as he did when a long MacDonald pass allowed winger Scott Robinson to score a corner try which Williams goaled to put Corus 14 points ahead after only seven minutes.
Steve Martin reduced the deficit after 19 minutes with a typically sharp try from the Narberth centre which Nick Jones was unable to convert but Corus grabbed a third score in the 33rd minute when second row Rhydian Geriat crossed and Williams added the extras before Nick Jones missed a penalty chance for the Otters.
The Otters made a good start to the second period as Martin scored his second unconverted try after a canny chip ahead by scrum-half Adrian Killa – but Williams notched a Corus penalty before MacDonald made the game safe with a sniping try from the base of a scrum and Williams duly converted.
Corus No 10 Michael Hook, the brother of Welsh international outside half James, had the final word with a neatly taken dropped goal and the Otters made the journey home with the disappointment of defeat.
