Eighty members and guests attended the annual cricket club dinner held at St Ishmaels Social Club. The cricket club chairman, Bill Roberts, welcomed all present, including guest speaker Councillor Martin Davies, Mrs Ann Davies, Mr and Mrs S. Richards, Mr and Mrs J. Llewellin.
Martin’s reminiscences of cricket and its characters in the good old days, were extremely amusing and a treat for all. The catering was carried out by Tish ladies Sarah, Debbie, Tracey and Alison .
Peter Bradshaw, first team captain, and Robbie Thomas, second team captain, gave their round-up of the season’s performances and praised everyone for their help and support, especially groundsmen Mel Williams and Mike Pawlett. Mel outlined the achievements of the juniors and the following trophies were presented: First team captain’s player of the year: Jonathan Pawlett and James Salter; Peebles Cup (best performance): Jonathan Pawlett; second team captain’s player of the year: Philip Cockburn; Best all-round first team fielders: Andrew Salter; Most ducks in the season: Lenny Rees and Ryan Rees; Junior player of the year under-15s: Andrew Salter; Junior player of the year under-13s: Arron Johnson; Most improved junior player: Ryan Rees.
Martin Davies then presented the following: The Jubilee Cup (not played for and so shared between Tish and Carew); First team captain’s special bowling award for overseas player for his seven - 17 v Lawrenny: Stewart Kimpton; Award for bowling achievement at under-11 Ipswich Festival Pembrokeshire v Lincolnshire: Brennan Devonald.
Stanley Richards presented the under-15s junior league trophy to under-15s captain, Andrew Salter.
Players, junior section leaders and committee members recorded their gratitude to everyone who has given so generously in order to help and support the cricket section throughout the season. The chairman presented the guest speaker with a framed photograph.
The evening was brought to a close with music from the Casuals and Mark Devonald’s disco.
