Gavin Kerr, an Australian now based in Pembrokeshire, is aiming next month to become world powerlifting champion at his first attempt.
Originally, a farmer from western Australia, but now residing in Clarbeston Road, five-miles north of Haverfordwest.
The impressive 23-year-old powerhouse currently holds two Welsh and British records, and is currently the British under-23 125kg-powerlifting champion and is also the United Kingdom open champion. Adding to that fine collection he’s twice been Wales’ single lift champion.
Kerr, is indebted to four-times world champion Paul Murphy, from Carew, who is busy preparing him for his first crack at the world championships, which take place in Vienna, Austria, on November 12th-17th.
Kerr said: “Training is going well and I’m really looking forward to competing at my first world championships. Paul’s competing in his fourth and he’s been passing his invaluable experience onto me.
“I’d like to say thanks to all my sponsors for their generous support.”
