Fulham premiership star Simon Davies was recently named Welsh footballer of the year.
Davies, born and bred in Solva, received his trophy at an awards dinner held at the Millennium Stadium.
Better known to his mates locally as Digger, he was thrilled to receive the top accolade for the second time in his illustrious career.
Davies has been Wales’ stand-in skipper for the past year, replacing injured Craig Bellamy.
In that period, under Davies’ temporary leadership, Wales have put together an impressive string of results, including a draw in Germany.
Delighted Simon Davies said: “It has been a good year for me. Last season I played well for Fulham and having the chance to stand in as captain for Wales was a real highlight.
“To be recognised with this award for a second time in my career is an achievement I am very proud of.”
Simon’s dad, Anthony Davies, said: “The whole family are very proud of him. Winning this award twice is a great honour.”
Wales’ young player of the year was awarded to Tottenham’s Chris Gunter and Cardiff City’s ace Joe Ledley was named Welsh clubman of the year.
Davies followed-up his trophy win with a starring role in Wales’ 2-0 World Cup qualifier victory over Liechtenstein.
