Swansea Uplands 13.

Llangwm 11.

A late, late try by Swansea Uplands’ full back Nick Cherry gave his side victory over a disappointed Llangwm team which had looked likely to take the verdict and the three league points on offer.

But then Cherry spotted a chink in the Llangwm armour and sliced through for a try which meant that the Wasps had to settle for a bonus point awarded for a narrow defeat.

The Uplands had lost all four of their previous matches in the league but they showed some nice early touches in good weather conditions before Llangwm took the lead with a penalty from prop Richard Scriven which was soon cancelled out by a similar kick by Uplands’ No. 10 Charles Beck.

The Wasps, with skipper Ian Griffiths, Gareth Jones, James Lewis and Andrew Phillips prominent, had a second successful penalty, this time by outside half Andrew Brock, before they increased their lead when quick hands by James Dix, who had a good game at scrum half, Andrew Brock, Griffiths and Will Beresford allowed winger Jonathan Brock to round off a cracking move with a corner try.

Now 11-3 ahead, it looked as if a Wasps’ win was on the cards but they took their foot off the proverbial pedal and the Uplands clawed their way back with a try by right wing Martin Reeve.

Boosted by this score the homesters kept up their momentum and Cherry claimed the winning score to leave Llangwm reflecting on what might have been.
