Cardigan 13.

Laugharne 21.

Cardigan suffered a disappointing defeat as Laugharne bounced back from a home loss to Crymych the previous weekend and ran out winners of an absorbing clash.

Yet the Teifisiders were always in contention and actually led 13-6 at one stage before Laugharne managed to increase their momentum in the final quarter and one of the architects of their defeat was former player Barry John, who scored one of the Laugharne tries in that time and helped create the other.

Cardigan skipper Colin Davies started and finished the first try of the match as his well-placed kick upfield established the platform and he rounded off a concerted forward drive to claim the touch-down. Davies also contributed a penalty as Jack Tremlett kicked a three-pointer for the visitors and added another after Cardigan scored a second try from centre Carwyn Thomas after quick hands had created the space.

It seemed at this stage as if a Cardigan win was on the cards but then Barry John kicked through cleverly and won the race to get that vital first touch on the ball for Tremlett to add the extra points and level matters.

Even worse followed as a loose ball allowed Barry John to take charge as he put outside half Dean Williamson over for an unconverted try – and Williamson added a penalty to take the game out of reach as Cardigan endured a second successive defeat after four wins on the trot before that.
