A student from Haverfordwest is one of five students who are above par with both a golf club and an academic text book — and all set to tee off at the University of Wales Newport School of Golf.
Daniel Farmer, who is studying for an MBA at Newport Business School, has been awarded a scholarship to the elite School of Golf, which was set up by Newport’s University in partnership with The Celtic Manor Resort, home of the 2010 Ryder Cup.
He has been chosen from scores of low handicap golfers who are eager to develop their golf to an international standard while studying for a degree at the university.
“This is a great opportunity to spend the next three years studying for my MBA whilst improving my game,” said 21-year-old Daniel.
“I’ve been playing since I was about nine. There was a set of clubs lying around so I started playing and it all took off from there.”
Daniel, along with the other golf students, will have access to the Celtic Manor Resort’s world-class facilities, including its championship golf courses and golf academy.
This is complemented by guidance on sport science at the university’s school of health and social sciences, which has appointed Stuart Morgan to provide guidance and advice on improving their game. Stuart is widely regarded as one of the leading authorities in golf coaching.
