Haverfordwest Badminton Club hosted its second annual club championship on Sunday, November 24.

The event saw 14 pairs compete for the club's three trophies: the Castle Championship, the Prendergast Plaque, and the St Thomas Spoon.

The day was filled with competitive yet enjoyable badminton, marking another milestone for the club's growing community.

The 2024 champions were Dan Jenkins and Becky Jones, who won the Castle Championship, Anoop Thomas and Anish KK, who claimed the Prendergast Plaque, and Dan Lewis and Tomos Waters, who took home the St Thomas Spoon.

Club secretary Tomos Waters explained the significance of the championship, saying: "The club championship is designed to welcome all players, with pairs progressing to one of three categories based on their results in the initial league phase.

"This format means that everyone has the opportunity to experience the excitement of tournament badminton, along with the opportunity to win a trophy, handcrafted and generously donated by Neil Hart Joinery in Milford Haven."

Since its formation in 2021, Haverfordwest Badminton Club has made significant strides in promoting the sport in West Wales.

This year, the club launched the new West Wales Badminton League, revived the Pembrokeshire Closed Badminton Competition, and hosted the Badminton Wales, West Wales Graded Tournament in June.

The annual club championship is a key part of the club’s mission to create a vibrant and inclusive badminton community.

Event organiser Andy Jones said: "We thank all the players, supporters, and volunteers who made this year’s championship a success.

"Here’s to another year of growth and achievement for Haverfordwest Badminton Club."

The club continues to put badminton back on the map in Pembrokeshire, offering players the chance to develop their skills, forge new friendships, and celebrate the joy of the sport.
