THE Dragons will pay tribute to supporter Ray Gleed on the 17th minute of Sunday’s game against the Lions after he died at Rodney Parade last weekend.

The 77-year-old from Caldicot, a lifelong season ticket holder, died after a medical emergency before the United Rugby Championship defeat to the Sharks in Newport.

The Dragons will now pay tribute to Gleed during their home fixture on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2.30pm).

“Following consultation with his family, the club is inviting fans to join in a minute’s applause on the 17th minute during the Lions fixture – it would have been Ray’s birthday on October 17,” read a Dragons statement.

“Supporters who wish to leave floral tributes are invited to place them by gate three at Rodney Parade.

"The thoughts of us all at Dragons RFC remain with Ray’s family and friends at this sad time."

Dragons co-owner and former chairman David Buttress paid tribute to Gleed on social media.

"I am very sad and sorry to read this, Ray was a great character and loyal supporter," he replied to the Dragons' post on X.

"My sincere condolences and deepest sympathy go to his family, friends and everyone who knew him."

Dragons Official Supporters Club chairman Dan Hallett said: "When I became chair of DOSC Ray would doff his imaginary cap and offer to kiss the ring, papal style, and call me M'Lord.  Lovely man who so many of us hold in great regard and affection."

The Dragons announced that their supporter had died on Sunday with the United Rugby Championship passing on their condolences.

Their official X account replied to the Rodney Parade club's statement with: "Our heart goes out to your supporter’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."

Closest rivals Cardiff Rugby posted: "Thoughts with you all, and the family and friends of the supporter."
