Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club is spreading its wings a little in 2008 by staging its first open duathlon, alongside its regular members-only triathlon, and the increasingly popular half marathon and 10k at Dale.
Up first is the club triathlon in Haverfordwest, which takes place on April 27th. The event involves a 400m pool swim, 15.5km bike, and 3.1km run. It is ideally suited to novices who would like to try a tri'' You need to join to take part, but £18 gets you entry to the race, membership to the club, a hot roll, drink and shower at the finish, and most importantly a warm welcome and plenty of encouragement.
Entry is open to just 32 competitors.
A month later, and the club stages its first ever open duathlon at Neyland on May 25th. The event consists of a 5k run, then a 22k cycle, and finishes with a 2.5k run.
It is open to individuals and teams of two or three, and the emphasis is on having fun and raising money for charity.
There will even be a prize for the best fancy dress individual and team.
The club's nominated charity for the event is the Bucketful of Hope Appeal can be found on the website www.bucketfulofhope.co.uk The duathlon will be based at Neyland Yacht Club, and the run course is flat, taking in the Brunel Cycle Track.
The bike section has one steady climb out to Sentry Cross via Waterston, and is then largely flat to Honeyborough and back, finishing with a nice downhill stretch to the sea front.
The events suits people of all abilities and the organisers are hoping that the race limit of 120 will be reached quickly.
All competitors will receive a commemorative event t-shirt.
