For the Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club, the show rolls over into 2021.
The club have now confirmed that the popular annual Dale Half Marathon and 10K races, this year scheduled for September 27th, will not go ahead due to the lingering uncertainty regarding Covid-19. This follows the cancellation of the Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon in Broad Haven earlier this month.
However, in both cases entrants have been able to defer their entries to next year free of charge, and club organiser Dave Astins said everyone involved was looking forward to getting going again.
“We’ve had great support from both British Triathlon and Welsh Athletics, who sanctioned both events,” he told Telegraph Sport.
“And we consulted Dale Community Council who said they were ready to welcome us if we are able to stage the September event.
“But while we could have altered things in terms of online registrations and briefing areas, in these instances the layout of the courses made it very difficult to guarantee social distancing.
“We hope by next year things would have settled down and even if changes do have to be made, we are confident of being able to run events successfully.”
Astins added the club, who were able to run the Neyland Duathlon back in March, had received tremendous support throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.
“We’d already had a lot of entries for both of the events and everyone’s place has been carried forward to 2021 free of charge. Athletes are entitled to their money back if they prefer but only a handful have requested that.
“When we made the decisions everyone involved was very understanding and there have been no negative comments at all.”
The Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon will now be held on July 10th, 2021, with the Half Marathon and 10k scheduled for Sunday, September 26th.
A date has yet to be confirmed for the next Neyland Duathlon, but Astins confirmed that event will also go ahead again sometime in March.
