Haverfordwest County will have a new chairman with immediate effect after announcing the development in a club statement on social media today.
The Bluebirds have been busy working behind the scenes and have announced a new chairman Robert Edwards, who is described as a chartered accountant and a successful London businessman.
With the season curtailed due to the Covid19 pandemic, Swansea University announced as JD Cymru South champions and Haverfordwest County finished runners up.
Swansea University do not hold all their licences and are unable to be promoted to the Welsh Premier, however, the Bluebirds finished second and have the full licences criteria with the club hopeful a decision will be made by the FAW in early June which may see them promoted.
Former chairman David Hughes said: “Robert Edwards sees Haverfordwest County as a sleeping giant, and after lengthy discussion he’s prepared to take on the club and has ambitions of taking them to the top tier of Welsh football.
“Robert Davies and I will be staying on in an advisory role. The club is in a healthy state, it has no red figure in its banking account. The new chairman is looking forward to the challenge of making them a top tier team in Wales.”
The statement read: “The Haverfordwest County AFC Board of Directors are pleased to announce new investment into the club will significantly change its structure. After several weeks of discussions, exiting new proposals by London businessman, Robert Edwards have been accepted along with the formation of the new board.
“The present directors have agreed to stand down with immediate effect whilst Mr. Edwards is appointed as the new chairman of Haverfordwest County AFC Limited. The new chairman has made it clear that all former directors will remain at the club as important members of the team.
“As part of the restructure both current chairman, David Hughes and commercial director, Robert Davies have been invited by Mr. Edwards to join the new board in advisory capacities during the transition period. New directors will be announced in due course.
“Robert Edwards has great ambitions for Haverfordwest County and with his proven ability as a businessman and a passionate supporter of association football we hope that he and his team can take the club to the next level whilst gaining the support and respect of the local community in the process.”
