Wales Women 29-8 Crawshays

She didn't play rugby until she went to University - but on Saturday Courtney Keight touched down for a try for Wales Women in their historic fixture with Crawshays at Ebbw Vale.

The 21-year-old, who took up the game on the advice of her former PE teacher at Greenhill School Samantha Morgan, joined Kayleigh Powell, Paige Randall, Caitin Lewis, and Molly Kelly on the try sheet while there two conversions from Robyn Wilkins to seal a 29-8 win.

Former Haverfordwest player Lisa Neumann also started on the wing while current Blues' prop Sarah Lawrence came on during the second half.

Crawshays, for whom Whitland’s Lleucu George appeared as a replacement, responded with a Dyddgu Hywel try and Ellie Green drop-goal.

After impressing in University and joining Swansea, Courtney caught the eye of the Welsh selectors while playing in a cup final for the Whites in the Prinicpality Stadium in April.

She was duly picked for the national 7s squad in the summer, and it didn't take long for the full senior call up to follow.

"From there I was asked to join the autumn squad and I made my debut against Ireland," she told Telegraph Sport.

"It felt incredible to score on Saturday. The environment that we’re in at this moment in time is just going from strength to strength and it’s so positive.

"So to win again was great and to score - that was really the cherry on top."

Courtney is now likely to be involved when Wales Women finish their autumn schedule against the Barbarians on November 30 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium - in a double-header with the men’s team.
