The first ever Marloes 10k Trail Run, otherwise known as the Howies Spud Run, proved a tough challenge for runners on Sunday.

Sponsored by Howies, the run incorporated almost six miles of the coastal path as well as beach and road terrain.

But the winner was a clear one as Owen Drew took the field by storm to come home in an impressive time of 43:15.

Second was namesake Teifi Drew in 46:21, with Pembrokeshire Harrier Alec Williams third in 46:32.

The first female home was Celia Boothman, of LTR Coaching, who was sixth overall in a time of 48:06.

Overall, there were 147 finishers with the last runners clocking just under two hours.

But it was Drew who led from the outset as he started quickly at Runwayskiln, and then stretched his lead on Marloes Sands before hitting the coast path, with no one able to catch him

His prize was 20kg of Trehill Farm potatoes, who helped provide the post-event pleasantries along with Wild Trail and Coaltown Coffee Roasters.

But every competitor received a free Howies race t-shirt, and were also treated to complimentary coffee and cake at the finish line.

The next Howies event is the St Clears Trots10k, which takes place on Sunday, August 18. The entry list is limited to the first 200 people.
